VEHICLE AWNINGS

Hard Shell Vs. Soft Shell Car Tents

Looking for car tents to kick off the 2020 camping season? At Dog House Tents US, we're here to meet all of your needs when it comes to car tents, overland trailers, and vehicle awnings. When you know it can be hard to decide whether hard shell or soft shell car tents are a better fit for your needs. Let's take a look at the difference between the two tent options.

A hard shell tent is heavier than a soft shell tent. Hard shell tents provide more protection against the elements than a soft shell tent, but you have to decide whether it's worth toting the extra weight. The hard shell protects the tent itself both when it's being transported and when it's being used. A hard shell tent can be a cinch to set up - it simply pops open and setup is complete. One setback - hard shell car tents are typically more than double the price of soft shell car tents.

A soft shell car tent provides protection similar to that of a traditional tent, with the added benefit of being raised off the ground. A soft shell car tent is not as easy to set up as a hard shell car tent, but the process is still fairly simple. Soft shell car tents are far less expensive than hard shells, and will run much closer to the cost of a high quality traditional tent.
